What is a “hipster?”
Wikipedia said this…
Hipster is a slang term which appeared in the late 1990s and 2000′s to describe young, urban middle class and upper class adults with interests in non-mainstream fashion and culture, particularly alternative music, independent rock, independent film, magazines like Vice, Clash and Adbusters, and websites like Pitchfork Media.[1] In some contexts, hipsters are also referred to as scenesters.[2] The term is sometimes used in a derogatory manner, referring to someone who moves from trend to trend while claiming to be outside of mainstream culture.
Hipsters come in all shapes and sizes. There are church pastors who are hipsters that look like this

There are hipster worship leaders that look like this

and then there are these music moguls who are hipsters

they even made a MOVIE about hipsters

So what’s my point? I guess I don’t really have a point. I just wonder if sometimes we love ourselves a little too much.
I’m not saying that these awesome leaders/pastors/musicians have self glorification problems…they might just dress that way. But in my opinion, if you straight iron your hair for 30 minutes every day and you’re a guy…………….i’m just saying……………idols are everywhere people.
I deal with my own junk. I’m addicted to a spotlight. I love attention and I’ve been swinging at that fence for a while now. No one’s perfect….just throwing it out there.
Jsmooth from Ill Doctrine has some good insight on hipsters.
I like hipsters. They are a lot more interesting than “normal” people also a lot can be said for people who pretend they aren’t interested in their appearance so much so that they do anything to be against counter culture. I know thats confusing but it makes sense in my head.
true enough. it’s like anything really. i wore airwalks in middle school but didn’t skate, i wasn’t trying to be a hipster or a scene kid….i just liked how airwalks felt. it’s probably more of an individual situation than anything else.
Great post. Just ran across your blog today. Thought I’d say hello!

i am a total hipster. i straighten my hair and wear airwalks.
am i a hipster? does that negate me by asking? ha ha… i don’t straighten my hair…
why can’t we just be who we are and be comfortable with it?
I am even more confused after watching that video. Is a hipster rapper, like an 80′s rapper or old school? So does this mean old school is cool again?
